Open-source Community Lead
pausedThe bridge between our open-source repositories and the people using them. Triages issues, shepherds contributors, writes the docs that need writing, and keeps the community surfaces healthy.
About the role
The Foundation publishes most of its work as open source — Nyx AI’s rule engine, TruXSocial’s codebase, DateX’s open core, the OSphreX feasibility report. These repositories need a careful, present human running them: triaging issues, reviewing contributions, writing the docs that are missing, and keeping the conversation healthy.
This is the role for someone who treats “community lead” as engineering work — not as marketing, not as PR, not as evangelism. The output is healthy repositories, useful docs, and contributors who feel respected.
What you’d be doing
- Triaging incoming issues and PRs on Nyx AI, TruXSocial, and (eventually) DateX.
- Writing the missing docs — README sections, contributor guides, architecture overviews.
- Shepherding external contributions through code review with the lead engineer.
- Keeping the community surfaces (GitHub Discussions, future forums) healthy and on-mission.
- Writing public updates when there’s something honest to say.
What we’re looking for
- Comfort with at least one of: Rust, C++, PHP/TypeScript (you don’t need all three; you need one deeply enough to read PRs well).
- Demonstrable experience with open-source community work — issue triage, contributor onboarding, doc work. This can be paid, volunteer, or both.
- Patience with the long timelines and slow cadence the Foundation works at.
- Honest written communication. The Foundation’s voice avoids hype; the community-facing work needs to match.
How to apply
This role is not actively recruiting yet. As with the engineer role, the Foundation will formalise this listing when funding allows. If the description resonates, reach us via the contact page.
